This collaborative project with Coaniquem, an NGO in Chile dedicated to aiding children affected by burns, was undertaken as part of the Safe Niños Project at ArtCenter. The project included a research trip to Chile where we stayed in one of the Casabierta's in Santiago and got to live with the patients and hear their stories and struggles.
Coaniquem sought designs for their clinic in Concepción, particularly focusing on the creation of a modular, temporary, and transportable dormitory with a strong emphasis on sustainability.
The Casabierta is designed as a place for healing and community. The modular dormitory serves as a hub where residents and staff engage in various activities, fostering lasting bonds and creating a supportive environment for the healing process.
This project draws inspiration from the healing tree story incorporated in previous Safe Niños initiatives. Building upon this narrative, the dormitory contributes to the well-being and sense of community for those undergoing healing at the Coaniquem clinic in Concepción.
