India harbors a significant population engaged in informal markets, underscoring the crucial interplay between the informal and formal sectors. This dynamic relationship is particularly pivotal in wholesale markets like the Central Market in Hampankatta, Mangalore.
This project was the topic of the Urban Context Studio during my 7th semester of architectural undergraduate studies. Our assignment involved conducting a comprehensive survey of the historic Hampankatta neighborhood. Subsequently, we were challenged to devise a solution for the Central Market, aligning it with the broader objectives of the Mangalore Smart City project. The endeavor aimed to address the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the coexistence of informal and formal markets within this historical context.
